Electrical work in Eastleigh

Eastleigh properties and the work they need

Eastleigh has a wide mix of housing, and that mix shows up in the work I get asked to do.

The terraced streets near the town centre and the railway works are the ones most likely to still have the original fuse board, little or no RCD protection, or wiring that has been added to a bit at a time. Rewires and new consumer units are common there.

Bishopstoke and Fair Oak have a lot of mid-century and later family housing where the wiring is generally sound but the board is now reaching the end of its service life. Chandlers Ford and Boyatt Wood are largely 1960s onwards, where the job is more often an upgrade, an additional circuit or an EV charge point than a full rewire.

Eastleigh also has a substantial rental market, which is why landlord electrical safety certificates make up a good share of my local work.

None of that changes the price — I price every job individually — but it does mean I usually have a fair idea of what I am likely to find before I arrive.

The jobs people ring me about

Something has stopped working. Tripping circuits, dead sockets, lights that will not come on. I trace the cause properly rather than guessing at it, then tell you what the repair involves.

Old fuse boards. A board with rewireable fuses or no RCD protection is the most common upgrade here — see consumer units in Eastleigh for what changes and why.

Inspections, certificates and rented homes. EICRs for owners and buyers, landlord certificates for tenancies, and any remedial work that follows.

Everyday additions. Extra sockets, replacement lights and switches, extractor fans, outside sockets and garden lighting — small jobs are welcome, and being based here makes them easy to fit in.

Building work. Extensions, loft conversions and garage conversions are best wired while the walls are still open, with the socket and lighting positions agreed before everything closes up. Getting that sorted early saves doing it twice. A workshop, garden office or annexe needs its own protected supply.

Charging a car at home. An EV charge point runs on a dedicated circuit, so the first check is what your board and incoming supply can carry.
