Electrical work in Warsash

Everyday electrical jobs in Warsash

Indoors is where most of the work is. Faults that need tracing when a breaker trips or a room goes dead. Sockets, switches, light fittings and fans replaced or added. Consumer units brought up to date when the old board has no RCD protection. Inspection and testing — an EICR when a house changes hands, and the certificate a landlord needs every five years — with the remedial work that follows. Kitchen and shower circuits, and rewiring where the cabling has had its day.

It is Peter on every job, NAPIT registered and fully insured, with the price settled before anything starts and a certificate at the end. Quoting is free and commits you to nothing.

Power outside the house

A good share of what people ask for here is outside: lighting along a path or across the garden, a socket by the patio for tools or a pond pump, a supply for a hot tub. Outdoor electrics are less forgiving of shortcuts than anything indoors. Fittings need to be made for the weather, every outdoor circuit needs RCD protection, and cable crossing a lawn or border has to be protected or routed where a spade will never find it. Garden lighting is easier to live with switched from inside the house.

Hot tubs

Electrically there are two kinds. Smaller ones plug into a 13 amp socket — which should be a proper outdoor socket on its own protected supply, never an extension lead through the back door. Larger ones need a circuit of their own with an isolating switch that can be reached easily but not from inside the tub. The installation sheet says which you have, and it is worth reading before the base is laid, because the position decides the cable route.

Chargers, outbuildings and building work

An EV charge point is a common ask now. It needs a circuit of its own, so it comes down to whether your board has a spare way, and whether the incoming supply is happy with a car charging alongside the kettle and the shower. Power to a garage, workshop or garden office works the same way: a protected circuit sized for the run, and sometimes a small board out there.

Extensions and loft conversions are worth a call early, before the plasterboard goes on and the sockets, switches and lighting can go where you actually want them. Leaving it until the plastering is done usually means paying twice.

Not sure where to start?

You don’t need to arrive with the answer. Tell me what you’re dealing with and I’ll explain the options: what needs doing now, what will keep, and what needs nothing at all. After 15 years I’d rather tell you that than quote for work you don’t need. Coming out to price it costs nothing. Let’s have a chat.

Questions

Warsash questions

Can a hot tub just plug into an outside socket?

Only if the manufacturer says it is a plug-in model, and then into a proper outdoor socket with RCD protection, not an extension lead. Larger tubs need their own wired-in circuit and an isolating switch. The installation sheet will tell you which.

Our RCD trips when it rains. Is that the outside lights?

Quite often it is water getting into an outdoor fitting or a joint, but it can be anything on that circuit. Resetting it and hoping is not a fix; the fault needs finding, particularly if the RCD protects sockets indoors as well.
