Electrical work in Lyndhurst

An electrician for Lyndhurst and the villages

I cover Lyndhurst and the nearby villages that share its postcode, including Minstead, Emery Down and Bank. Most of the work is ordinary domestic electrics. Finding the cause when a circuit trips or a room goes dead. Replacing sockets, switches and light fittings, and fitting fans and outside lights. Changing old fuse boards for consumer units with proper protection. And inspection and testing for homeowners, buyers and landlords. New circuits and rewiring where a property needs them.

Peter comes out, looks, and quotes before anything is disturbed — NAPIT registered, fully insured, certificates issued for the work that needs them, and no charge for the quote.

Running a generator in a power cut

Some properties out here are fed by overhead lines through the trees, so this comes up after storms. A generator must never be plugged into a socket with a lead that has a plug at both ends: that can push power back down the incoming cable towards the people repairing the line. The safe method is a changeover switch beside the consumer unit with a weatherproof inlet outside.

Outbuildings, extensions and charging

Properties around here often have something away from the house: a garage, a workshop, an office in a stable block, a garden room. Power out there normally means a protected circuit sized for the distance, and sometimes a small board of its own rather than one long lead. Extensions and loft conversions follow the usual rule. Wire them while everything is still open, with the positions agreed first, and you avoid paying for it twice.

An EV charge point is worth raising early too, particularly where the drive is long or the parking is away from the house, because the cable route and the board decide as much as the charger does.

Not sure where to start?

Most people who ring aren’t sure whether they need a repair, an upgrade, or just advice. Tell me what you’ve got and I’ll come and look. After 15 years I can explain the choices without the jargon, and I’ll say so if the honest answer is to leave well alone. Quotes are free. Let’s have a chat.

Questions

Lyndhurst questions

Why can't a generator just plug into a socket?

Because the house stays connected to the mains. Power can travel back out along the supply cable to whoever is repairing it, and when the mains returns it meets the generator head on. A changeover switch makes that impossible.
