About EICRsMost people simply call it Hamble, and either name brings you to the same page. The whole village is covered, along with the roads leading into it. Day to day the work is repairs and additions. A breaker that will not stay in, or sockets and lighting that have failed. Switches and fittings replaced, and extractor fans fitted. Consumer unit changes where an old board has no RCD protection. And EICRs for sales, purchases and tenancies, with the remedial work afterwards. New circuits and rewiring where the house needs them.

Worth knowing before a charge point, heat pump or much larger kitchen goes in. In an older house the incoming supply can be the limit rather than the consumer unit: the main fuse may be rated lower than houses get today, and the supply may be looped, with two neighbouring houses sharing one cable. Both belong to the network operator, and I check what you have before the work is booked.
Most calls are ordinary ones. A breaker that keeps tripping or a room that has lost power needs the cause traced properly rather than a part swapped and hoped for — that is what fault finding is. Alongside that: sockets and lighting added or replaced, outdoor sockets and garden lighting in weatherproof fittings, and supplies out to a garage, workshop or garden office.
Planned work follows the same pattern. An extension or loft conversion is cheapest wired while the walls are still open, with the positions agreed early. An EV charge point wants a circuit of its own, which brings the board and the incoming supply back into it.
Plenty of people ring without knowing what they need, and that’s fine. Tell me what’s going on and I’ll explain it properly: what’s worth doing now, what can be left, and roughly what each costs. 15 years in, that conversation usually takes a couple of minutes. Quotes are free. Let’s have a chat.
Questions
You often cannot tell from the meter cupboard alone. I can look at the incoming arrangement, and the network operator can confirm it from their records. If it is looped, they are the ones who separate it.
Tell me what you want to add, and I will check whether the supply can take it.
