Before the work startsMarchwood is its own village, past Totton on the edge of Southampton Water, and I cover it in its own right rather than as an afterthought to Totton. The work is the everyday domestic range. Faults traced when a circuit trips or a room loses power. Extra sockets, new switches and light fittings, and extractor fans. Consumer unit changes, EICRs and landlord certificates. Circuits for kitchens, showers and car chargers, outside power, and rewiring in part or in full.
A lot of the houses date from after the war and plenty have been extended since, so new work often meets older circuits. Either way: a look first, a price before anything starts, and the certificate at the end. Quotes are free.
Useful to know if your house is about to be extended. First fix happens while the walls are open, with cables run to every position; second fix follows plastering, when the sockets, switches and lights go on and everything is tested. The decisions belong to first fix, so walk the room with the builder’s drawing and mark the positions — an extra cable now costs far less than chasing one in later.
Power to a building away from the house is a regular job. A garage, a workshop, a garden office at the end of the plot. It normally wants a protected circuit of its own, sized for the distance and for what will actually be used out there. Sometimes that means a small board in the building rather than one long lead. Tell me roughly how far it is and what will run in it, and I can say what’s involved.
Ask before you commit to anything. Describe what you’re planning and I’ll tell you what it means for the house. 15 years in, I’d rather look at the job as a whole than the immediate problem, so you know what needs sorting now and what can be left. I’ll explain it plainly and price it for free. Let’s have a chat.

Questions
Yes, but it means cutting a new channel in the wall, running the cable and making good, then redecorating. Deciding the position at first fix avoids all of that.
Send me the plan or describe the room, and I will come back to you.
