Electrical inspectionsBitterne has its own district centre on the east side of the Itchen and is usually thought of as a place in its own right rather than simply part of Southampton. This page covers Bitterne and Bitterne Park; the Southampton page covers the rest of the city. The jobs here are the everyday ones: faults and tripping traced to the cause, sockets, switches and lighting replaced or added, extractor fans, fuse boxes replaced with modern consumer units, EICRs and landlord certificates, new circuits, and rewiring where an older house needs it.
You get one electrician for the whole job, a clear price before it starts, and the certificate for anything notifiable. The quote is free and there is nothing to sign.
A local one worth knowing. A smart meter appointment sometimes ends with no meter and a note about the installation. What happens next depends on whose equipment it is. The sealed cut-out and main fuse belong to the network operator, and the meter to your energy supplier. The meter tails, the board and everything after it are yours, and that part is electrician work. Usually it is tails that are too short or undersized, no earth at the board, or an old fuse board that cannot safely be worked around. Once it is put right, the appointment can be rebooked.
Outdoor jobs are regular here. A weatherproof socket, lighting along a path or drive, power to a shed or garage on its own protected circuit. Indoors, an extension or loft conversion is far cheaper wired before the walls go back, with the sockets and lighting agreed before the rest of the work moves on, and the board checked for room.
If an EV charge point is on the list, it needs a circuit of its own, so the board and the incoming supply decide what is possible — the same check that often comes up when the meter is being changed.
Repair, new board, or just advice? Ask, and I’ll explain what each involves so you can decide what’s worth doing. After 15 years that’s usually a short conversation rather than a long one. Quotes are free. Let’s have a chat.

Questions
If the note is about your consumer unit, fuse box or the tails running to it, that is electrician work. If it is about the sealed cut-out or main fuse, contact your energy supplier, who arranges the network operator.
Tell me what the installer found, and I will come back to you.
